The long way to the cockpit

I've wanted to fly since I was a child. This is what I did while I got ready for it, and why it matters.

Who I am

I'm Arjya Prakash Kahili, from India. I went to school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, then studied English, Mathematics and Physics at intermediate level. Today I work in HR and operations, design websites as a freelancer, and teach driving part-time.

Under all of that sits one thing: I want to be a pilot. It's been my dream since I was a child, and it's the reason I'm now studying for the DGCA exams on my own.

The route

Read it from the top. The dashed line is the heading I've held since childhood: flying. The solid line is the route I actually took. Early on it runs in hard right angles, the way circuit traces and grid layouts do. As the work turns toward aviation, the corners soften into a curve and the route meets the heading.

Technology is on this route because it's where I found out I can teach myself hard things. It wasn't a detour. It was practice at learning, which flight training asks for too.

  1. Childhood

    Heading set

    I wanted to be a pilot as a kid. That hasn't changed, so I've drawn it as a fixed line. Everything else on this page is the route I took while keeping that heading in mind.

  2. Self-taught

    Learning the tools myself

    I stream and make gaming content on YouTube. To do it properly I taught myself OBS, overlays and bitrate sampling. Nobody handed me a course. I worked it out.

    Making content over the long term taught me consistency and how to talk with an audience. I also collaborate with newer creators on making and promoting content.

  3. Since June 2025

    Building websites for clients

    I design and build websites as a freelancer. Most of the job is listening: what does the client need, and what will work for the people using the site? Then I take it from requirements through design to delivery, on my own, and fix what breaks along the way.

  4. Annvitra since February 2026. Driving lessons since June 2026.

    Work that runs on process

    At Annvitra I handle HR and operations and build the company's records and documentation. That work depends on accuracy, confidentiality and following a process every time.

    Separately, I teach people to drive. I explain procedures at the learner's pace, watch how they behave, and correct them on the spot. It's a small version of something aviation cares about: control, awareness and disciplined decisions.

  5. Now

    Back on the heading

    I hold a DGCA Class 2 Medical and I'm studying on my own for the DGCA exams. Air Regulations is scheduled for September 2026. Technical General and Meteorology follow as soon as I can sit them, before the end of 2026.

    I'm studying past the minimum on purpose, so formal flight training starts from a solid base. See the pilot path.

  6. The goal

    Where this is going

    A Commercial Pilot Licence, structured airline pilot training and, in time, a place in an airline cockpit. I'm aiming to contribute to a leading Indian airline, and I want to earn that with discipline and a safety-conscious habit.
